Design and Technology
Design and Technology is the interface between humans and the world around them.
A flourishing designer at The Ridge is able to apply their technical knowledge and skills to a wide range of products in a creative and inventive way. They gain inspiration and ideas from the world and products they see before them, making and evaluating products that are fit for purpose.
At The Ridge, we encourage creativity and designs using a range of technical skills, giving the pupils opportunities to research, design, make and evaluate their products in an iterative manner. The children are taught a new skill along with any safety considerations and then they are encouraged to use that skill independently, with master engineers being able to draw upon their vast experience to be able to evaluate and improve their designs as they progress. Each technical skill is explored twice during their time at The Ridge, with a yearly emphasis on cooking and nutrition.
We aim to help the children become designers that can work innovatively and responsibly to prepare them for the world. We would like them to be able to solve problems, apply skills and take creative risks in order to make products for an ever changing world.
One way we deliver our DT curriculum is through an annual STEM week which is thoroughly enjoyed by the entire school.
