Geography

A flourishing Geographer at The Ridge uses correct and appropriate vocabulary to communicate about the subject, they are able to investigate and explain physical and human features around the world. They are aware of how human and physical processes can shape the world and can use appropriate vocabulary to explain these. Geographers at The Ridge develop a range of techniques and can apply these to investigate areas they are studying.

We teach Geography following the National Curriculum, through topics such as Earthquakes, Volcanoes and Local Area. At The Ridge, we focus on three main concepts, which are Investigating Places, Investigating Patterns and Communicating Geographically. Within these concepts, we focus on 8 areas of knowledge including Physical features, Diversity and Location. These areas of knowledge are revisited regularly over the Key Stage in order to deepen understanding.

Our aim is that Geographers at The Ridge develop an enquiring and questioning interest in the World we live in where they can make connections between our actions and the impact they have on the world whilst also understanding how diverse and amazing our planet is.
